Persistence!!!

Every day can present its own challenges and hopefully opportunities.
Calvin Coolidge, the US’s 30th president serving in the mid 1920s said:

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

I am confident that there are places in your life where you have started good things and that where persistence will make all the difference. So my thought for you today is this: Where in your life will persistence pay off? Where can you “Press On” to achieve your goal?

I invite you to then take on today with a renewed enthusiasm for your task or goal. And if we can support you through our coaching services, know that we would be honored to do that.

And so, Press On toward your goal with persistence and determination.

And whatever you do today, Create a Great Day!!

Attitude of Gratitude

I don’t enjoy visiting the doctor or undergoing medical procedures. Not only does it feel like a waste of time and an –in-your-face presentation that I am not in perfect health, it also can bring on feelings of helplessness, as I am required to rely on people when I don’t really know if they know what they are doing. Some of the procedures are just creepy and weird. Being poked and inspected can be difficult for me, perhaps for you as well.
And so it was with a little curiosity and a lot of positive self-talk that I got myself to my 10 hour sleep study this past Sunday night. As I tried not to overreact to or be anxious about some of the surprises that met me there, I focused on the personal situation of my technologist. As she recounted the challenges she was having with work, family, medical and personal issues, I realized that my anxiety over this study was less significant when compared to the plethora of difficult circumstances she was facing. I vowed in that moment to take stock of those things in life for which I am grateful, and chose to focus on these things. An attitude of gratitude has a strange and wonderful way of putting things in a different perspective, and empowering us to move forward with what needs to be done. Try it this week!!!

Life Planning: How To Get Absolutely Everything You Want

Life Planning is critical in obtaining your dreams.

Without it there’s a good chance you’ll end up somewhere in the doldrums. So, while spontaneity is great for exploration, maps get you to your target destination. But, where do you start with your planning?

The challenge is usually in selecting the target from among the overwhelming number of possibilities.

Watch this short video for exciting details >

As Stephen R. Covey says, “begin with the end in mind.” Start with a goal, big or small. The beauty of a goal is that it gives you a target to move towards rather than living with no target or a moving target, which is difficult to hit. You wouldn’t plan a vacation without thinking about where you want to go, would you? Of course not! First, you’d select your destination, and then you’d create your itinerary.

Life planning is the same.

Your plan may change, it may be updated, it may take a slight detour, and that’s okay! It becomes your guide for what activities get a “yes” and which ones get a “no.” Life planning gives you clear direction so you won’t get distracted and side tracked from what you really want and in the end look back over your time spent here on this planet and wonder what happened.

Ask any truly successful person the secret to their success and they will tell you: knowing what I wanted (and going for it!). Easier said than done. You’ve heard the cliché: “life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.” This is standard for most people.

Successful people plan the work and work the plan:

  • Figure out what you enjoy doing most
  • Understand what makes you happy
  • Explore the possibilities a bit and
  • Pay attention to what resonates

Do your life planning backwards from this position of happiness.

The challenge most people have is they are so deep into the “life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans” portion of their day to day operations that they’ve lost touch with their bliss. This is where a lifecoach can assist. Lifecoaches are gifted in listening, and professionally trained to assist people hear their own inner voice.

As long as you meet your obligations and do not violate the rights of others, you deserve to have what you want. Life planning with a lifecoach can help you get (back) in touch with yourself, put a plan in motion, and guide you towards a clear goal that is in balance with what makes you happy.

Ah, happiness. Isn’t that really what you want?

Life Coaches And The 3 Things Most Won’t Tell You

Life Coaches can help when you’re “out of balance” from who you are and what you want.

Life coaches can help you when your at a turning point in your life.  Bored? Miserable? Exhausted? Confused? Maybe, even a little bit angry? These are all emotions that let us know we are out of “balance” with who we are and what we want. These create the perfect opportunity for change in our lives.

Life coaches can be a tremendous help during times like these. But, unless a friend has given you a glowing recommendation for one, you may find yourself frustrated in the process of finding one. Many people call themselves a “lifecoach”; just go to any networking event and you’ll find several.

Here are a few things that life coaches will tell you:

#1 There’s An Accredited Association for Life Coaches

Attorneys are required to pass the BAR before practicing law and contractors are required to be licensed to build structures. Even manicurists maintain a state license to apply nail polish. Coaching also has an accreditation. It’s called the ICF, or the International Coach Federation.

International Coach Federation LogoThe ICF is the largest worldwide resource for this profession, and the source for those who are seeking a coach. They are a nonprofit organization formed by individual members-professionals who practice coaching, including Executive, Leadership, and Life Coaches and many more, from around the world.

You can be ensured you are hiring a professional if they are accredited by the ICF.

#2 You Can Get Started With A Good Self-help Book

What some life coaches will lead you to believe is that there’s no replacement for one-on-one life transition coaching and this is true. But, books can be a great place to start, in fact good coaches acknowledge self-help books and highly recommend them! Many have written excellent books themselves and agree that a book can “awaken” someone looking for change.

Obviously, one-on-one life transition coaching offers un-biased feedback from a 3rd party professional trained to listen between the sentences, help you clear the fog that is creating confusion and imbalance, and navigate towards exactly what you currently can’t see or understand.

As helpful as a book can be, it will never question you, listen to you or provide you with feedback. It just “ain’t gonna happen.”

#3 Not All Coaches Are Exceptional!

Read this part carefully because this is probably the most important piece of advice we can give you.

NOT all life coaches are alike. As we mentioned in #1, many are not properly trained. Many coaches lack a true gift in understanding people and you’ll notice immediately that you just don’t resonate with some of them. Finding a coach who helps you feel comfortable enough to truly open up and share core issues is critical to your success.

Interview the coach you are considering. Any coach worth their weight will offer a free session and this is a perfect time to kick the tires, so to speak. Make sure they have the personality, training and program that “feel” right to you.

Good Life Coaches Are Objective And Have Your Success In Mind

LifeCoach: 10 Questions You Should Ask Before Hiring One

LifeCoach Questions Answered In This Video! >

A LifeCoach is someone trained in listening and guiding people who are looking for direction in their life.

A qualified lifecoach will tell you that you already have the answers; their job is simply to pull those answers out of you and help you to get on the path towards achieving your goals. The ICF (more on this later) defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.”

If you’re at a point in your life where:

  • You can’t seem to figure out which direction is the right direction
  • Or, you’re unclear about what your greatest skills and intellectual assets are
  • Or, you simply want to figure out the best way to compensate for your weaknesses

Then, a lifecoach will be a worthwhile investment for you!

Think about it! When you need a professional, you hire a professional:  a licensed lawyer to handle your legal matters and an M.D. for medical advice.  Professional life coaches will give you professional advice. If athletes and teams benefit from coaching, you absolutely will too!

LifeCoach - Questions To Help You Find Your Ideal Coach :

#1 “Are you accredited by the ICF?

ICF is an acronym for International Coach Federation. It is the largest worldwide resource for professional coaches, and the source for those who are seeking a coach. ICF is a nonprofit organization formed by individual members-professionals who practice coaching, including Executive Coaches, Leadership Coaches, Personal Coaches, Transition Life Coaches and many more, from around the world. All professional life coaches are ICF accredited!

#2 How do I know if I need a lifecoach?

Have you ever reflected back upon your life and wondered, “what’s next for me?” Or, maybe you’re bored (and stuck) in your current career and thinking, “there’s got to be more than this?” A lifecoach will aid you in figuring out the next steps.

#3 What can a coach do for me?

This one’s pretty obvious: COACH YOU! Your lifecoach will ask you powerful questions to help clarify what’s really important to you and then assist you by building a game plan for your next success and encouraging you from the sidelines along the way.

#4 Does your coaching program meet my specific needs?

Before designing your plan, a lifecoach will take the time to get comfortable with you and your needs. A career bound student fresh out of college is completely different than a retiring executive. Both can benefit from a little outside perspective. Asking a professional lifecoach will help you define your strengths and lead to helpful insight, revealing things you may not have considered!

#5 What are the benefits of having a plan?

Each road to success begins with a stable, well laid-out plan. Remember the old adage: plan the work and work the plan. A plan will simply keep you on a grounded path in the direction you want to go. Everyone can benefit from coaching!

Remember, this is your future; determine what you want and go for it. Life is for living and being happy!

These next 5 questions will help you find the BEST coach for YOU.

#6 How many years have you been lifecoaching?

#7 How many clients have you had?

#8 Have you personally ever been through a life transformation?

#9 Have you ever hired a lifecoach?

#10 Do you offer a free consultation?

Most likely you’ll know within the first 30 minutes if this person is a good fit.  Being able to openly communicate is the only way to get the advice you’re seeking.

Now, here’s your bonus question:

#11 Can I benefit from coaching even after I’ve achieved success?

If you are successful now, why wouldn’t you want more? Call a lifecoach and say, “Hey, the first round was GREAT and now I’ve got some new ideas for my future, can you help me out again?” If you’ve been successful already, the next step for you very well may be – significance!  In seeking success we ask, “What do you want?”  In seeking significance, we say, “How will it matter?”
